May 17, 2016

Holding up the claim of researchers in Indian medicines that alternative medicines like Ayurveda can cure various types of cancer diseases, the Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI), a national association of Ayurveda medical practitioners, is chalking out a new project for formulating a common protocol for treating cancer diseases, the most fatal disease spreading all over the world today.

The common protocol will be out within next three months time and it will be submitted to the Union Ayush ministry for its endorsement.

The protocol will be rooted in the efficacious methods tested and adopted in the modern and traditional treatment systems, according to AMAI. For this, AMAI will coordinate the Ayurveda medical practitioners who have specialized in cancer treatments and engaged in continuous researches in addressing this disease at national level. According to the association, achievements of many Ayurveda physicians in cancer treatment are not well documented.

The aim of the project is to make group facilitation by motivating and coordinating all the researchers to perform as a joint work to save the ailing community. Involvement of modern doctors will also be solicited. The first phase of discussion was held at Thiruvananthapuram, and the second round will be held next month. We plan to bring out the treatment protocol in another three months,  says Dr Rejith Anand, general secretary of AMAI.

“Ayurvedic management of cancer care can be taken as supportive to modern therapy and as an independent therapy as well. Reducing the prevalence, prevention of metastasis, minimise complications of various conventional therapies, cost effective management etc. are the real challenges faced by modern sector. Ayurveda has solutions to all these problems. Now the whole world is looking forward for an alternative method for cancer management and prevention,” he added.

According to researchers, the lifespan of cancer patients can be considerably increased through Ayurveda in a positive way. Some studies prove that combined therapy fetches very hopeful effect minimising complications of chemo therapy, radiation etc, and improving the quality of life.
